Villa Ocampo is a city in the extreme north of Santa Fe, on the banks of the Pilcomayo River and in direct proximity to the Paraguay River, in the Argentine humid Chaco region. Its economy is based on extensive livestock farming, dryland agriculture and the Chaco forest corridor, forming a territory of scale and authenticity that is difficult to find in other regions of the country.
The livestock ranches in northern Santa Fe offer field experiences in virgin environments: horseback riding through the Chaco mountain, watching native fauna such as the tapir, the puma and the maned guazú, and sport fishing in the Paraguay and Pilcomayo rivers. The ecosystem of wetlands and palm groves is of extraordinary landscape value, with sunsets of a visual breadth that few regions in the country can match.
The ranches in the region offer high-quality rural accommodation with reduced capacities, designed for small groups seeking absolute privacy and direct contact with agricultural production. Some establishments have their own runway or nearby aerodrome, which facilitates access by private flight with immediate transfer to the field.
The cuisine of northern Santa Fe is of Chaco roots: corn locro, roast fat cow raised in its own fields, country cheese and artisanal pork rinds dominate the table of the rooms. The products of the mountain—native bee honey, quebracho fruits, homemade sweets—add a unique character to the local gastronomic experience.
The Villa Ocampo aerodrome allows direct access by light and turboprop aircraft from Buenos Aires, avoiding long land journeys along national route 11. From San Fernando (FDO) the flight time is approximately 2 hours 10 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes depending on the aircraft. For agribusiness executives or travelers looking for exclusive rural experiences in the humid Chaco, the private flight is the only option that combines speed and real access to the establishments in northern Santa Fe.
The southern winter (May to August) offers the most pleasant climate in northern Santa Fe, with moderate temperatures and less presence of insects. Spring (September-October) brings flowering of the Chaco mountain and optimal conditions for wildlife watching. Summer is hot and can experience intense rains that affect access to grass slopes.
