Pigüé is a small city in the southwest of Buenos Aires of Aveyron origin, founded at the end of the 19th century by settlers from French Aveyron who left a lasting European mark on its urban fabric and customs. Surrounded by livestock fields and excellent hunting areas, Pigüé offers the select traveler a unique combination of cultural heritage and Pampas country life.
Partridge and martineta hunting in the fields of Pigüé and its area of influence is recognized for its high density of game and the extent of the private reserves available. The ranches in the region maintain the Creole livestock tradition with ranching activities, horseback riding, and productive tours. The Aveyron heritage of the foundation is celebrated in local festivities and is seen in the architecture of the first colonial houses, some of them still standing in the historic center.
The ranches surrounding Pigüé are the natural accommodation for visitors arriving by private plane: spacious country houses, attentive service and cuisine that combines the best of Creole tradition with touches of European heritage. For shorter stays, the town offers quiet and well-cared for lodging alternatives.
Pigüé's cuisine is a reflection of its double heritage: Creole country roasts with locally produced lamb, goat and beef, along with preparations of French and Mediterranean influence passed down from generation to generation. The rooms in the area offer complete tables where local products are the protagonists.
Pigüé Airport (ICAO: SAZE) is approximately 489 km from Buenos Aires. A private flight from San Fernando (FDO) covers that distance in around 1 hour and 15 minutes by turbine aircraft, turning a land trip of more than 5 hours into a punctual and wear-free arrival. To organize dawn hunting days or short field stays, the private plane is the only efficient alternative.
The hunting season—from autumn to winter—concentrates visits between April and July. Spring is the ideal time for field trips, equestrian activities and enjoying the mountain landscape of the Ventana mountain ranges, just a short distance away. Summer, with its long nights and clear skies, favors restful stays in ranches.
