Junín is an agribusiness centre in northwest Buenos Aires Province, about 215 km from the capital, and home to Laguna de Gómez —a nature reserve renowned for birdwatching and pejerrey fishing. The city marks the site of the Battle of Junín (1824), a milestone in San Martín's liberation campaign.
Laguna de Gómez records more than 200 species —flamingos, herons, ducks and black-necked swans— and provincial pejerrey competitions. Laguna de Gómez Natural Park offers trails and group facilities. Party estancias offer riding and minor hunting by arrangement.
The city has upper-category hotels with meeting rooms for agribusiness. Lakeside inns suit anglers and birders; advance booking is advisable in season.
Fried or grilled pejerrey is the regional signature dish. City grills work with local beef and Buenos Aires wines.
Junín Airport (JNI / SAAJ) handles private operations comfortably. From San Fernando (FDO), about 215 km is covered in 35 to 45 minutes versus more than two and a half hours by road.
Pejerrey in the lagoon March to October, best in autumn and winter. Migratory birds in spring (September–November). Summer suits family nature tourism.
