Porto Alegre is the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state in Brazil and the one with the greatest European influence in the country, with a German and Italian heritage that is expressed in its winegrowing, gastronomy and architecture. As a private aviation hub in southern Brazil, it is both a business destination and a gateway to the Serra Gaúcha and the Pampas countryside.
Serra Gaúcha — Gramado, Bento Gonçalves, Vale dos Vinhedos: Brazil's most renowned wine region, with high-altitude Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in a landscape reminiscent of central Europe. Cave Geisse — World-class Traditional Method Sparkling Wines, absolute reference in Bento Gonçalves. Gramado Natal Festival The most famous in Brazil (November-January, 3 million visitors). Gaucho ranches — Creole culture of the Rio Grande do Sul fields, the rural counterpart of the wine corridor.
Sheraton Porto Alegre — Luxury reference in the Moinhos de Vento neighborhood, the most exclusive in the city. Hotel Laghetto Local luxury brand with multiple properties in different categories. Quinta do Butiá Boutique stay near Bento Gonçalves, for complete immersion in the wine of the Serra Gaúcha.
The gaúcho churrasco is the original: served country style with chimarrão. In winter, the pinhão — monkey puzzle tree pine nut — is a local ritual. Italian pasta with wine from Serra's own production defines the colony's table. Porto Coffee for contemporary Rio Grande do Cuisine; Via Veneto, an institution of haute cuisine with a long history in the city.
Approximately 1,700 km from Buenos Aires, about 2h20 flight time. Salgado Filho Airport (POA) is 8 km from the center. The Porto Alegre + Serra Gaúcha combination requires a direct flight plus car transfer: the wine route is 150 km from the city, and only private aviation allows you to do this circuit in a single efficient day.
October to March: summer, harvest in January-February, warmer temperatures. June to September: winter, Gramado Natal season, fog and cold in the Campos do Sul, more cinematic atmosphere in the European villages of the Serra.
