Villa Dolores is the discreet gateway to the Traslasierra Valley, one of Córdoba's best-kept serrano corridors: a mountain route on the western Comechingones slope where warm dry microclimate, condors over gorges and historic estates among olives and walnuts create a setting of quiet retreat and understated luxury. For travellers who know Córdoba city and seek its more intimate dimension, Traslasierra is the discovery that changes perspective.
Quebrada del Condoritos National Park is the country's most accessible condor nesting site: gorge trails let you watch nests from viewpoints metres from the flights. Cerro Champaquí —2,884 m, Córdoba's highest point— is a high-mountain trek with vast panoramas. Big- and small-game hunting estates on the serrano corridor offer pampas deer, red deer and partridge on fields unreachable except by air. Nono, Los Hornillos and La Paz retain colonial architecture and Comechingona textile craft.
Traslasierra's top offer is boutique lodges and mountain estates with design-led lodging. Rancho de Cabaña Los Algarrobos in Nono and exclusive inns in Mina Clavero blend serrano architecture with contemporary comfort. For total privacy, sporting estates offer exclusive lodging with private cook, stables and guides, in the manner of Africa's finest hunting lodges.
Traslasierra has notable artisan production: olive oil from century-old sierra groves, goat cheeses from small dairies, walnuts and regional family sweets. Serrano cooking combines these with field meats, white-corn locro and kid goat on the open fire, the emblem of Córdoba sierras. Emerging valley wineries —Estancia La Paz and small high-altitude producers— complete a genuine table little known outside the region.
Villa Dolores Airport (VDR / SAOD) serves private flights on a paved runway suitable for light jets and turboprops. A flight from San Fernando (FDO) covers 671 km in 1 h 5 min to 1 h 25 min — a fraction of the 8-hour drive. Traslasierra has no regular commercial service; private flight is the only way to connect Buenos Aires with the valley in a day, making a Capital business meeting and an afternoon in the sierra viable without losing workdays.
Traslasierra's warm dry microclimate makes the valley enjoyable year-round. Serrano summer (December to March) is peak season with ideal outdoor temperatures, full rivers and maximum greenery. Autumn —March to May— is preferred by discerning travellers: fewer visitors, golden poplars and walnuts, and the best conditions for the Champaquí trek. Big-game hunting season (May to August) is the reference period for sporting estates.
